Jim began his career in corporate governance in 2008. In his current role at Alliance Advisors as Senior Managing Director of the corporate governance practice based in Rockville, Maryland, Jim advises clients on all aspects of corporate governance with a focus on activist situations, shareholder and economic proposals, and E&S research. Jim is a frequent presenter and panelist at corporate governance and shareholder activism conferences.
Before joining Alliance, Jim held several positions in corporate governance research including serving as the Deputy Head of Research at Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS). In that role, Jim managed one of the largest teams of research analysts whose sole focus was to provide high-quality and timely proxy research and voting recommendations to over 1,400 institutional investors. Jim has authored research on numerous proxy fights and contested mergers and led many high-profile engagements with issuers and investors, developed and updated proxy voting policies, and served as a fiduciary for the company's 401(k) savings plan.
Jim holds an M.B.A. from Cornell University and a B.S. in Engineering and Applied Science from UCLA. Jim is a CFA charter holder, a licensed CPA, and a life member of the California Scholastic Federation.
